The trail in Virginia and West Virginia was mostly well-maintained, and there were only a few areas where the trail was overgrown and a nuisance to hike on. The ascent now begins, but really, you go up a little, walk a flat section, go down, then back up again, then walk once more on a flat section. Both routes re-connect with the hiking trail. We bypassed the Spring, and off we continued until we hit the WVA/VA crossing, then all the way down the FS road to the parking lot where we first turned aroundin the morning. As we entered the woods, we had a discussion about hiking to the next shelter since it was so early.
