Hello Ibukun,

I believe that although the farm is 4 years without any update, the process is the same.
For a better and faster update, check my post at https://blogit.create.pt////miguelisidoro/2019/05/02/how-to-speed-up-the-installation-of-sharepoint-cumulative-updates-using-powershell-step-by-step/ that uses a update process based on PowerShell that makes update quite faster.

Thanks,
Miguel

Thanks for the excellent post Miguel.

I have a farm that requires updating from an August 2019 CU to date (4 years worth of updates). Is there an inherent risk to running the process as described? Anything I need to watch out for?

Hello Teknik,

The step by step is in the post itself.
I recommend however for you to follow the steps in the post at https://blogit.create.pt////miguelisidoro/2019/05/02/how-to-speed-up-the-installation-of-sharepoint-cumulative-updates-using-powershell-step-by-step/ that allows you to install the cumulative updates in less than 1 hour.

Thanks,
Miguel

Hrllo Riley,

The search service application is the most complex component in a SharePoint farm. However, the suspend shouldn't freeze. The goal is to suspends the search service application, pausing all crawls and search operations. What are the hardware characteristics of the farm (RAM Memory, CPU, etc).

Please ensure that the hardware is compliant with SharePoint requirements.

SharePoint 2013: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/install/hardware-software-requirements-2013
SharePoint 2016: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/install/hardware-and-software-requirements
SharePoint 2019: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/install/hardware-and-software-requirements-2019

Thanks

Hello Chris,

Sorry for delay.

Check the articles at:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/ghosted-pages-in-sharepoint-don-t-render-ab77a16e-6ad1-4e56-7f91-b05ae21fae33
https://blog.stefan-gossner.com/2020/09/25/trending-issue-after-installing-september-2020-cu-and-pu-custom-pages-and-controls-fail-to-render/
https://blog.stefan-gossner.com/2021/02/11/enhancements-to-pageparserpath-element-in-the-sharepoint-web-config-physicalpath/

This has to do with security protection that Microsoft has included from September 2020 Cumulative Update.

Thanks
